Moderators

Moderators are volunteer members of the Guild who moderate in the forum.  They make sure things run smoothly in the forums and keep an eye on conversations happening in their forum.

Moderators can help you out.  If you are in a forum and something unexpected is occuring, you can message the moderator of that forum.  If needed they will message an admin.  They also can help you find the best forum to post your topic in.  If you see a post that you think might be offensive or spam, report it to the moderator of that forum who can take immediate action.  There are links in the forums to make a report.  'report to a moderator'.

If you're a moderator, you keep an eye on the conversations in your forum.  You ensure the rules are followed.  You can warn a poster for something you think is out of line.   If you're unsure, bring it to an admin's attention.

But the biggest and most important job of OUR moderators is to make people feel welcome and comfortable.  If someone posts in your forum, answer even if its just to say  you don't know', or 'that's cool'.  A post that goes unanswered is not acceptable to a thriving community. Welcome people to your forum, keep conversations going and start new conversations when things get slow.  Know where information is to point people to it if they ask.  Everyone has something to offer and it helps them offer it if they feel they are in a comfortable and friendly setting.

Moderators, how do you get and keep people talking?

Welcome them into the forum.

Always answer posts.  Even if its 'I don't know, but maybe someone else does'.  Never let a post go unanswered.

Start a thread.  New posts mean people look.  Most times people only look for the little green 'new' sign.  What might you post about?  Your own experience, toy wish list, techniques you use recently.  If you post, others may answer.

Ask questions.  What do you have in your wand toy box?  What's your wish list?  Do you have clubs in your area where you go?  What's your main wand area of interest? etc.

Put up a internal link.  Are you writing a blog on the site?  Post pics?  Link to it/them in your forum, and encourage others to do the same.

Look for people who are active in your forum and suggest that they do other activities on the site.  Did they start a blog?  Do they want to work on points?  Are they interested in guild business?  Encourage them to post about it.

Here is a reprinted post about the REAL job of Moderators

Forum moderators should promote interaction

The primary role of a forum moderator should be to promote interaction. A forum moderator should be posting new threads and adding new content to the site. They should be helping out members with their queries and they should be keeping threads alive by asking questions.

I am not saying that forum moderators shouldn’t be allowed to delete or lock threads that are inappropriate – of course this should be one of their roles. What I am saying is this should never be their primary role.

When you take on forum moderators you need to make it clear exactly what you expect from them. Most moderators see themselves as forum police officers and will only edit/delete/lock content without creating any themselves. This is a mistake – make sure your moderators know that their primary role is to encourage interaction, to encourage member involvement, and to encourage a sense of community within your forum.

Here's where I got it, if you want more information how to succeed as a moderator and help grow the community, click and read.
